33: 𝑀𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐹𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠
Hitoshi walked up. Trying his best to seem indifferent to the situation and his peers. But he was a nervous wreck.
"Come on... This is what you've been training for! You can do this Hitoshi! Don't blow this... Who knows what Eraser did to get you in this training exercise. This could be my only chance, screw up too much and they'll never take me seriously..."
Kira sighed. 'Someone's nervous. Am I supposed to fix that?' She looked over at Aizawa who was next to Shinso.
"It's that guy!"
"That's the guy that brainwashed Midoriya... I remember him."
"Aw!! He's a tiny Eraserhead!!"
"Is that Aizawa's scarf?!"
"Last time I was in his control I saw the vestiges... Was it coincidence? Or did his quirk trigger something? Like a state of hypnosis where I was exposed to my subconscious... I don't know anything about that stuff..."
"He'll never win if he lets his nerves get to him." Aizawa thought with a frown. "Want to say a few words?"
"I'm... I'm Hitoshi Shinsou." He said.
"God damn it! They already know that. Alright just breath and stop shaking damn it! How is this worse than the sports festival?!"
"I've already faced a few of you as opponents... But we're not friends just because we fought each other." Shinsou said. Kira raised an eyebrow. She was behind a lot of the group, she wasn't even sure if he could see her or not.
"I'm still competing. And I'm light-years behind the rest of you. But one day I will become a proper hero. And I'll use my quirk to help people in need."
Kira nodded along.
"All of you are obstacles I need to overcome. I'm not here to make friends." He finished. "Was that too harsh? It's not like they want to be friends with me anyways... There's the green haired guy... Where is she?"
"Thanks for having me." He added.
"This guy sounds like a jerk." Bakugou thought with a frown. Kira leaned towards him.
"He sounds like you." She whispered. "At least how you were at the beginning of the year."
"Hey!" Bakugou snapped with an eyeroll. "Shut up!"
"Nah." Kira shrugged and walked through the crowd of students, that clapped for Shinsou.
"He's so serious!"
"Be on guard..."
"I like this guy!"
"What are you doing?!" Bakugou whispered as Kira walked up towards Shinsou.
"Making friends." Kira responded with a smile.
"He said he didn't want friends!" Bakugou groaned but stayed close behind Kira anyways.
She stopped in front of Shinso and stuck out her hand. "Nice to see you again."
He stared at her for a second. Then at her hand.
"Shit it's her. I don't know how I'm supposed to... Man I still don't know much about her. She's one of erasers closest students and she's all Might's niece. Shit I hesitated too much... Her hand-"
"You gonna take it or what?" Bakugou snapped with an eyeroll.
"Play nice Katsuki." Kira said, glancing up at Bakugou. "Or walk over there. Either is fine."
Shinso took her hand and shook it. Hoping to get it over with. "Kira Kokoa, Mindreader." She introduced herself. Though she knew he already knew her name. He had no idea about her quirk.
He paused, hand falling to his side. "What... What was that last part?"
"Oh I'm a mindreader. I just thought you should know." Kira shrugged.
"A mindreader? So she can hear my thoughts. That's a baller quirk. Though not objectively heroic. Like mine. Probably a tough one to have in the hero course. But when it comes to mine..."
"Oh your quirk is completely useless on me." Kira nodded. "But that's why you're training with Aizawa."
"Shit." Shinso cursed under his breath. "Well let's hope I can still take you in a fist fight." She chuckled.
Kira laughed and patted him on the back.
"Yeah. Right."

Shinso was on 1As team starting out. They would fight in teams of four. But two matches Shinso would join one side. First one A, then later on one B.
He looked at the two balls that represented his team. A blue ball cradles in his palm read "5" and a red one in his other hand read "1"
He'd fight in the first match with Kaminari, Kirishima, Tsu and Koda. Against team Shiozaki.
Then he'd fight on Team Monoma. Against...
He looked at the lists. Team Midoriya would be his last opponents.
Not only did that team contain the Green haired boy that had beaten him in the sports festival.
But also Kira Kokoa. Who was an apparent mindreader who in his opinion... Radiated power.
It was odd, her quirk was like his own in a way. It wasn't ideal for this line of work. But unlike him Kira had this... Intimidating arua around herself. She seemed to be very intelligent, and confident. Though that was a little different than when he first met her. She seemed to have gotten stronger.
Here he was, thinking about Auras. He was starting to sound like Tammy.
Tammy Tanaka was Shinso's only friend. They were both... Well weird. She didn't seem to like anyone, as far as he could tell she barely liked him. She was completely stoic all of the time and didn't pull any punches.

"You want to be in the hero course?"
Tammy Tanaka asked, looking over at Shinsou. It was the first day of school at UA and Shinso had made it very obvious he wasn't happy with how he was placed.
"Don't we all?" Another classmate snorted.
"No." Tammy said with a shrug. "I would have gotten in though, if I had tried."
"Sure." Shinsou rolled his eyes. Sick of this day already. Walking in the classroom and seeing all the other rejects like him didn't make him feel any better.
"Well I was recommended into the hero course by an old teacher. But I rejected it." She stated. "I don't want to be in the hero course. I wanted to go to UA because it looks good on college applications and it's an easy way to get into a police academy."
"Overshare much?" One classmate whispered to another.
"Like we care about how 'easily you could have made it.' Shut up." Another jealous student scoffed. "What a wasted opportunity."
"Yeah, I would have killed to get recommended."
"You must be pretty dumb to reject it like that."
Two more students added their opinions and Tammy just shrugged. Standing up. "That's your opinion." She stated without much emotion.
"Why do you guys care huh? Just because her plan is different doesn't mean it's dumb." Shinsou interjected. "So what she doesn't want to be in the hero course? That's one less person I have to worry about getting in my way."
"Wow what a speech." A student said sarcastically. Rolling their eyes, but he had a point. They didn't have to worry about her stealing a spot they wanted.
"Thank you." Tammy said after they walked out. Though her tone didn't properly display her gratitude. It was flat and even, no emotion detected. Meanwhile she was staring again like he had grown another head.
"Yeah..." Shinsou said, pulling back. The chick was kinda weird, she gave off a eerie vibe. He couldn't really explain it though.

"What are you doing?"
"Sitting down. Isn't that obvious?" Tammy looked over at Shinsou and pushed up her glasses.
"In the classroom?" Shinso asked with a frown.
"Don't get all judgemental. Last I checked you were here first." She looked down at her food and started to eat. Then pulled out a book of poetry to read quietly.
"Weirdo." Shinso mumbled under his breath.
"Okay." Tammy mumbled back as she continued to eat.
They sat in silence for the rest of the lunch hour.

"You're never going to get in the hero course eating like that."
Shinso scoffed and glared at Tammy. "What the fuck?" He hissed. They had been sitting in the same place together for about a week. Very rarely speaking together. When they did it was her telling him to chew quieter or him telling her to stop clicking her pen so much while writing.
"Your diet is junk foods and energy drinks. You'll pass out in an actual fight because of lack of actual nutrients." Tammy stated, looking down at his food. Which was pizza and a monster he had gotten from the vending machine in the hall. "Do you even work out?"
"Fuck off. What are you?? My mom?!" Shinso friend and glared at his food.
"You're angry." She said, once again with no emotion. Not even question, she was just stating a fact. "You'll never reach your goal if you don't take advice from others."
"Like you know what it takes to be a hero. You want to be a damn cop." He snapped, tried of her talking.
"Hm..." She said. But didn't respond.
He stared down at his food. "What... What am I supposed to eat then huh?"
"A balanced diet for starters. I'd suggest cutting out sugars as well. They slow you down." She said, eyes glued to her notebook.
"Yeah well... Stop telling me what to do if you don't even believe I can be a pro. It's annoying." Shinso frowned and quit eating, feeling the need to toss his food in the trash and get a different meal.
"Who said I didn't believe you could?" Tammy asked. This time just a little bit of confusion slipped into her tone. "You're motivated and you have a very useful and strategic quirk. You'd be able to save people and apprehend villains with only your voice."
Hitoshi slowly turned to look at her. She was still casually looking at her book. Chewing her salad without much interest.
"You... You really think that?" He asked slowly. Never... Never before had he heard someone say something like that about his quirk. At least not without him prompting them.
"Yeah. But that's only if you physically dedicate yourself to it of course. You won't get anywhere without changing your diet and working out. You're kinda tiny for a tall guy." She said, glancing up at him. "Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked when she saw his smile.
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Hey... Thanks Tanaka. I'll think about that."
Tammy blinked. "Okay."
'He... He had a nice smile.'
A/N: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Man I love them. So slowly after this Tammy basically falls head over heels for Shinsou while he... Is oblivious and thinks they're just good friends.
(Ugh men.)
Random Author Headcannons for their relationship:
Tammy leaves him stuff on his desk as a "secret admirer" (his favorite candy and stuff) only for him to vent to her about how confused he is and how he thinks it's a prank.
They play video games together. Shinso is a very dedicated gamer. Tammy found out about that and pretended like she was too, (but she didn't know the first thing about gaming until she met him.)
They're the definition of the trend:
Shinso:
"Idk if id choose my lover over saving the world..."
Vs
Tammy:
"I'd let the world burn... I'd let the world burn for you."
